Availability

Availability has to do with the percentage of time that a system will process requests. It has 2 primary measurements. Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR). When you define these in advance they are called service levels. These two measurements establish a pattern that says how long a system will continue to be responsive and how long it will be unavailable when it breaks. When you measure them and try to improve them they are called measures of quality improvement.
