Events

Events Trigger Change of State. This section is about events that occur in the life of a system. An event is a; signal, trigger, message, or idea that something about a system has changed. An Event initiates a transition from one state to another in a system. Events are instantaneous. Theoretically, events occupy no time.

In real systems there are propagation delays that cause the event to take time to be generated, transmitted and recognized. A system is in a state, an event occurs and the system is now in another state. Different events cause different transitions and hence possible behaviors.

Each state determines which events are allowed and which are ignored. For example, in the living state, the born event is ignored except in a metaphysical sense. This means there is no transition out of the living state with the born event on it.
