Prototype

A prototype of a system is the "First of its Kind." This section is about building models. It is what systems engineers live for. Prototyping is seeing the first visualization of something that did not exist before.

Rapid Prototyping

Rapid prototyping is the ability to build simulations or visual models quickly with powerful tools. A prototype can accelerate requirements understanding by creating a common frame of reference for stakeholders and a straw man for stakeholders to poke at.

Since systems engineers are operating at the logical level, physical machines are not always the subject of their prototypes, but include human interfaces and machine to machine protocols of the simulation of logical machines.
