WBS

A Work Breakdown Structure is an analysis of the work to be performed in a small project. It breaks a project down into phases, development elements and finally to specific tasks with effort estimates and persons responsible for specific activities.

A work breakdown structure is an informal version of a project plan such as would be produced with a tool such as MS Project which might be used on larger projects. The WBS often includes dependencies and milestones. These are all used to identify and mitigate risk in the project.
